Thanks to modern software applications, taking screenshots is one of the simplest and easiest operations you can perform. If you need proof, you should look no further than Free Snipping Tool. You can take a snapshot of what you need, annotate it and save it or upload and share it in just a few seconds. The application provides support for several image formats, it lets you upload your screenshots to various services, but it keeps everything simple at the same time.

As its name suggests, the application is absolutely free. You can have it up and running in no time, on any modern Windows platform. Its hardware requirements are modest and it doesn't need any special tools or services to run.

While Free Snipping Tool is running quietly in the background, you can run its executable a second time or click its system tray icon to start capturing the screen. After drawing a rectangle around the area you want to capture, a series of options will appear on its left and bottom edges. You can use them to highlight, draw, insert shapes or text and to save your snapshot.

If you're satisfied with your snapshot and annotation, you can copy it immediately to the clipboard or upload it to the cloud. If you decide to upload it, the application will get started right away, without waiting for any further user input. The progress is displayed on a small dialog, in the bottom-right corner of the screen. When the upload is complete, the application will automatically copy a share link to the clipboard, but you can also click different options, on the same dialog, to copy the image or save it as a file in a local folder.

By default, Free Snipping Tool will upload your snapshots to its own cloud service. Additionally, you can link the application to other services, like Google Drive, Dropbox, WebRequest or to your own FTP server. You can provide your login credentials in the general settings menu, after which loading screenshots to these services will be just as easy.

Taking snapshots of the screen and distributing them over the Internet can't get any easier when using Free Snipping Tool.

Pros

You can take screenshots and upload them the the cloud at a moment's notice. Free Snipping Tool can be linked to third party cloud services and to FTP servers. The application is lightweight, it can be installed quickly and it's free.

Cons

Options for capturing the entire screen or specific windows would be a couple of welcomed additions.
